The Los Angeles City Council appointed Heather Hutt to finish the term of former councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas.Since September 2022, Hutt filled the 10th district seat on an interim basis, following the suspension of Ridley-Thomas, who was indicted on federal bribery charges at the time.With Ridley-Thomas found guilty of multiple corruption charges in March, the city council was able to appoint Hutt to officially join the council with an 11-1 vote, with the dissenting vote coming from Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez.“It is an honor for me to serve the people in the 10th District,” a teary-eyed Hutt said during the council meeting. “With all the support that we get here, I’ll continue to do the work. (BCN) -- A 33-year-old man has been convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of a San Francisco Department of Public Works employee who was painting over graffiti when he was shot in the city's Mission District in 2016, prosecutors said Tuesday. The Big Ten is hiring former Major League Baseball executive Tony Petitti to be its next commissioner, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Tuesday night.The person spoke on condition of anonymity because a deal was still being finalized.
