They are issued after car accidents, fires, water main breaks, landslides, and other disruptions. So what are they? And where did the term come from?A SigAlert is a traffic notification system used by the California Highway Patrol to alert drivers about incidents that disrupt traffic flow, typically on interstates or major roads.Whenever a freeway is closed due to a crash - that's a SigAlert. While many Californians might assume "Sig" is short for “Signal,” it's not. New Farrow & Ball redecorating book opens whole new can of … paint Britain’s Farrow & Ball has a beautiful new book out — “How to Redecorate” — that dives into the fascinating world of color and paint, a subject few could make as interesting as Joa Studholme, color curator for the venerable English maker of high-end paints and wallpaper. Studholme takes us on an exquisitely illustrated (340 photos and drawings) tour that includes such key considerations as light, architecture and style, then squires us around color families and ends with a comprehensive look at finishes — from Dead Flat to Full Gloss.F&B is known for its small collection of artisan colors. “We believe that by condensing the options to only 132 carefully curated colors that selection is easier,” Studholme told me last week on a Zoom call from across the pond. (By comparison, Sherwin-Williams offers more than 1,700 paint colors.) Since Studholme came on board, every color the company has added was created at her kitchen table, where she sits with...
