Fight over preservation of historic Black cemetery heads to Maryland’s Supreme Court The groups working to preserve a historic Black cemetery in Bethesda are going to continue their legal fight, and plan to take it to Maryland’s highest court. The move comes after a decision by Maryland’s appellate court that found the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission can sell the parcel where the remains of hundreds of enslaved people are buried, despite the objections of the groups trying to preserve the property.“If this ruling is upheld on appeal, no traditional African American cemetery, no traditional Native American cemetery will be safe,” said Steven Lieberman, a lawyer who represents the Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition, Dr. Segun Adebayo, pastor of the Macedonian Baptist Church, and three descendants of people buried in the Moses Macedonia African Cemetery.Lieberman told WTOP that a previous ruling that stopped the sale of the property was correct. Lieberman explained that Maryland law requires that when a landowner wants to sell land that includes buri...

Unions blame United for airline's ongoing travel issues DENVER (KDVR) — Travel troubles continue for United Airlines as the July Fourth weekend approaches. No airport is feeling the pain more than Denver International as United attempts to get back on track. The misery map operated by FlightAware showed two-thirds of flights coming and going out of Denver's airport Friday afternoon were delayed or canceled. Delayed United Airlines passengers wait days for luggage in Denver But unions for both United pilots and flight attendants say United management shares much of the blame, pointing out no other airline has had as many cancellations and delays in the past week."And I feel badly, not only for the pain and suffering our passengers have had to endure, but also our e...
