SAN DIEGO (AP) — Freddie Freeman hit a three-run homer and Amed Rosario and Mookie Betts also connected for the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, who beat San Diego 8-2 on Sunday to spoil Rich Hill’s debut with the Padres. Lance Lynn (8-9) had an impressive second start for the Dodgers as they defeated the Padres for the seventh time in nine games this season and kept them from reaching .500 for the first time since May 11.Lynn allowed a no-doubt home run to Gary Sánchez in the third inning but otherwise quieted an inconsistent Padres offense that had broken loose Saturday night in an 8-3 win. The 36-year-old Lynn, acquired from the Chicago White Sox on July 28, held the Padres to one run and four hits while striking out six and walking two in six innings. The top four batters in San Diego’s order had just one hit, a single by leadoff man Ha-Seong Kim.Hill (7-11), a 43-year-old lefty obtained Tuesday from Pittsburgh along with Ji Man Choi, lasted only three innings in...Messi scores early in 1st game outside Florida for Inter Miami at FC Dallas

He had consecutive multigoal games coming into the Leagues Cup round of 16 match in Frisco, about 30 miles north of Dallas.Messi’s second multigoal game came in the first Leagus Cup elimination game, which was delayed by an hour and a half because of a torrential rainstorm in Florida. The fifth game in Texas in Messi’s illustrious career had a kickoff temperature of 100 degrees (38 degrees celsius) on the 14th c...Rain, lightning and possible floods? Sam Cole, a traffic safety manager with CDOT, said this year alone the department has recorded 77 motorcycle deaths. Denver police working to recruit more women to join the force "This isn’t good news,” Cole said. “Seventy-seven deaths so far this year and we’re only about halfway through the summer. This year we’re trending a little bit lower when it comes to motorcycle deaths than we were last year, but we do expect that number to be about the same at the end of the year.” Last year was a record-breaking year according to CDOT with 149 recorded motorcycle deaths. “Motorcycles are only about 3% of the vehicles on our roadways, yet they’re about 20% of the deaths that we see on our roadways,” Cole said. “That one fact shows you how dangerous it is.” Cole said fatalities seem to peak in the summer months and many ar...Rangers blank Marlins for 6th straight win, Jung fractures left thumb

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers slugged four homers and swept a six-game homestand with a 6-0 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday in a game in which they lost standout rookie third baseman Josh Jung with a fractured thumb.Nathaniel Lowe, Marcus Semien, Ezequiel Duran and Adolis Garcia homered while Andrew Heaney allowed four singles in 5 2/3 shutout innings. The six-game winning streak and four homers matched Texas highs this season. The Rangers, who went into play leading the major leagues averaging 5.78 runs per game, have hit multiple homers in six consecutive games to match a franchise record.Jung fractured the thumb on a bizarre play in the top of the sixth inning with runners on first and second and nobody out. Jorge Soler hit a scorching, 110-mph liner directly at Jung. The ball bounded out of Jung’s glove, but he grabbed it and started a double play. He tagged the bag, then threw to Marcus Semien at second. Jung then left the game.“We’ll see a specialist and see wh...Coco Gauff defeats Maria Sakkari in Washington for her fourth title. WASHINGTON (AP) — Away from a tennis court, Coco Gauff is still, in some ways, a typical teen, rolling her eyes at receiving FaceTime calls from a younger sibling — “I’m at press right now, Bro” — and her father — “Oh, my God” — while two versions of the DC Open trophy she earned Sunday sat on the table in front of her. With a racket in her hand, Gauff is not typical at all, as her success so far shows. And after the disappointment of a first-round exit at Wimbledon last month, the 19-year-old from Florida appears back to her best as the start of the U.S. Open approaches later this month.Surging at the end of each set, Gauff defeated Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-3 in the Washington final for the fourth WTA Tour singles title of her career. Gauff is the youngest women’s champion of the hard-court tournament in the nation’s capital and the first player since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009 to win four WTA tournaments as a teenager.“I would say,” said Gauff, who is ranked No. 7 and...Suspect dead after shooting involving officers in La Mesa
