Quebec Premier François Legault says courage was necessary to propose raising the salaries of provincial politicians by $30,000.Legault made the comments today as the Coalition Avenir Québec’s party convention got underway in Sherbrooke, Que., about 150 kilometres east of Montreal. His government tabled a bill this week that would raise the base pay for elected officials from $101,561 to $131,766, making it the highest among Canadian provincial politicians. The governing party’s caucus is unanimous in supporting this considerable increase, which was recommended by a committee earlier this year so as to attract strong candidates.Legault told reporters today the debate on the salaries of elected members of the national assembly had dragged on for too long and it was necessary to have the courage to increase their base pay. Most of the 125 elected members of the legislature already earn substantially more than base salary because of other duties, but everyone will see an incre...'It sickens us': Rhode Island officials investigate 'racist and hateful' signs designed to mimic official notices

"We strongly condemn racism and discrimination.""It’s particularly sad that vandals have targeted Lincoln Woods, Rhode Island's first state park which, since 1909, has existed to afford 'the greatest good for the greatest number,'" the post continued. DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Ross Chastain thinks things went too far last week in punching Noah Gragson in the pits at Kansas. However, the NASCAR points leader says he feels more comfortable in his growing role as the Cup series’ reigning bad boy.Gragson confronted Chastain after a late-race incident and took a punch from Chastain before personnel broke it up.“I feel security stepped in about 10 seconds too quick,” Kyle Busch said Saturday.Expect blood pressure to rise this weekend at Darlington Raceway, where the Goodyear 400 takes place Sunday. The track “Too Tough To Tame” has traditionally gotten drivers sideways both during and after the checkered flag waves.Chastain would prefer to talk out issues with rival drivers, but he stood by his actions at Kansas.“I’m not saying that every time in a little bit different situation (I’m) going to react like that,” he said. “I want to talk to guys and have conversations, but last week was too far.”Chastain will s...Eze scores both as Crystal Palace blank Bournemouth in EPL

LONDON (AP) — Eberechi Eze’s double highlighted Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Saturday. Both teams have already avoided the drop, and Palace remained 12th in the standings, four points above Bournemouth.Eze fired Palace ahead late in the first half in a move sparked by Wilfried Zaha and involving Jordan Ayew.Eze bagged his second in the 58th, a solo effort that saw him collect the ball from Michael Olise on the left before a mazy run through the center put him in position to fire his 10th of the season into the top right. It was not all good news for Roy Hodgson’s hosts, who saw Zaha forced off after the break when he pulled up limping. Zaha only recently recovered from a hamstring injury.Zaha, out of contract at the end of this campaign, was treated to a rousing chant by the home support, possibly wondering if this would be the last time they would watch him walk off the pitch in a Palace shirt.___More AP soccer: https://apnews.com/h...Leeds fan arrested, banned for accosting Newcastle manager Eddie Howe during EPL game

Moments like that do make you think — the safety of staff and players is paramount for me at any matches in the Premier League and Football League. We need to be mindful, security is so important.”The spectator trespassed into the technical area and initially grabbed Howe by his left arm, then jabbed at him and pushed him high in the chest. Howe looked shocked and appeared to shout something at the intruder, who was quickly led away by security as other members of Newcastle’s security staff complained.Leeds said hours later the man was arrested and banned.“I don’t know if I had time...Latest news
