OAKLAND — Oakland A’s right-hander Mason Miller is meeting with Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday to help determine the severity of the elbow injury that’s kept him out for the last week.A’s manager Mark Kotsay said Miller is flying to Dallas on Monday to be examined by Meister, who performed elbow surgery on 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in March. Purdy’s ulnar collateral ligament needed to be repaired after he was hurt in the NFC Championship game in January.Miller last pitched on May 7 in Kansas City, and one day later, the A’s later revealed that Miller had experienced tightness in his right elbow during that outing and was sent home from the trip to be examined in the Bay Area.Last Tuesday, Kotsay told reporters in New York that the exam revealed “a clean, structural MRI” and there was hope Miller might begin to play catch as soon as the end of this week. Two days later, though, Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list with the A’s saying they...

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A pair of news outlets in Turkey provided different partial results from the country’s presidential election Sunday, with the state-run news agency indicating with three-quarters of ballot boxes counted that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would squeak out a victory but an opposition-leaning agency saying the contest was headed toward a run-off.The state-run Anadolu Agency said Erdogan was leading with 51% of the vote, while Kemal Kilicdaroglu, his main challenger, had garnered 43% after 75% of ballot boxes were tallied. The ANKA news agency said that with ballots from 76% of boxes counted, Erdogan had won 48% compared to Kilicdaroglu’s 46%. If no candidate secures more than 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters will face a run-off on May 28. Further complicating the picture, the opposition candidate’s party accused Anadolu of manipulating results, insisting that Kilicdaroglu was narrowly leading with 47.42% to Erdogan’s 46.80%.Istanbul May...

The initial diagnosis call was for Bowman to miss three to four races. He has six top-10 finishes in his 10 races so far. Bowman is second Hendrick driver to miss time this season for an off-the-track activity. Past champion Chase Elliott missed six races this...

Taylor Walls’ grand slam off Albert Abreu leads Rays past Yankees in another Stadium slugfest

The Yankees landed two jabs but whiffed on the knockout blow. Taylor Walls’ fifth-inning grand slam off Albert Abreu salvaged a series split for the Rays who jumped back to eight games in front of the Bombers in the AL East with their 8-7 win Sunday afternoon.Abreu was called on in the fifth to clean up Clarke Schmidt’s mess. Two batters after Harrison Bader’s full extension diving catch limited what would have been a bases-clearing extra-base hit to a sac fly, Abreu entered with the bases loaded, two outs and the game tied at four. The righty hung a 1-2 changeup as only one of the four runs to cross the plate was charged to him. The other three were tagged onto Schmidt’s line which, despite the pink attire across the field for the celebration of Mothers’ Day, was anything but pretty. The 27-year-old tossed 4.2 innings allowing six hits, and three walks while being charged for seven runs. The right-hander’s struggles continue as his season ERA ball...
