5-alarm fire destroys at Metro East convenience store

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. - Investigators are trying to figure out what caused an intense overnight fire that destroyed a Metro East convenience store.It happened at the 'County Line Quick Stop' on Camp Jackson Road at Carol Street, very close to Cahokia Heights. A quick-moving and destructive fire completely destroyed the building. Crews got the first call just before 2:30 a.m. The Camp Jackson Fire Department was very close to the scene so crews from there were the first to arrive.Camp Jackson Fire Department Chief Chris Davis told FOX 2 that flames were already pouring from the building when he and his crews got to the scene. The fire quickly grew to five alarms, with some 30 firefighters responding from 10 different departments. There was a full second floor to the building with an apartment before the fire.The business owner did not want to speak on camera. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A federal judge has sentenced a drug runner who provided a deadly dose of fentanyl to a St. Louis County woman several years ago. Jerome Middleton, 46, of Calverton Park, has been sentenced to 13.5 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to a felony charge of knowingly distributing fentanyl (resulting in death) earlier this year. According to his plea agreement, Middleton would collect money from people, buy drugs, and keep some of the drugs for himself while making trips as a drug runner. Middleton bought six capsules containing fentanyl in St. Louis and kept three for himself, per his plea. Middleton also admitted going to the victim’s home on the four days preceding her death to provide her with narcotics, supplying the deadly fentanyl around Nov. 27, 2020. Police found the victim deceased after concerns from family friends. The victim left behind a 4-year-old daughter and 20-month old son. LIVERMORE — A motorcyclist died Tuesday afternoon in a collision with an SUV, police said.The motorcyclist’s name was not released as of Tuesday morning, pending confirmation of his identity and notification of his next of kin. (KRON) -- The Los Altos Police Department is investigating a series of crimes involving stolen vehicles and attempted break-ins that occurred early Monday between 1:20 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. Police are asking local residents for additional video from home security systems.The suspect or suspects stole a black 2022 Volvo XC90 and a white 2018 Chevrolet Suburban, according to investigators, in addition to burglarizing six vehicles. (KRON) – San Leandro resident Natasha Jimenez-Pazo was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Feb. 27 on West Eleventh Street near El Portal Street in Tracy, according to the Tracy Police Department. Jimenez-Pazo, 32, is accused of striking a pedestrian with a vehicle resulting in the death of an unidentified adult male. Dublin Police Services officers assisted the Tracy PD Traffic Safety Unit with the arrest on the 7000 block of Village Parkway in Dublin. (BCN) -- Two people were charged for allegedly burglarizing a Christian Dior store in San Francisco last week, according to prosecutors.Ahjanae Woods, 23, and Terry Nichols, 28, pleaded not guilty to one count of second-degree commercial burglary, one count of grand theft, one count of organized retail theft, one count of conspiracy and one count of resisting arrest, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said in a statement Tuesday.Around 6:50 a.m. last Thursday, Woods and Nichols, along with some companions, arrived in three vehicles at the Union Square neighborhood and first tried to allegedly break into a Fendi store at 195 Grant St. The group then allegedly broke the gate and doors at a Christian Dior store at 185 Post St., where they stole numerous handbags and other merchandise, San Francisco police said.
