The fate of the mounted lion, tiger, polar bear and gorilla that have long greeted visitors entering South Dakota’s largest zoo is grim after arsenic was found to be widespread in the taxidermy collection, creating a raging debate about whether the more than 150 animals should be destroyed. Some locals who grew up around the menagerie, which used to fill a hardware store, are fighting the mayor and zoo officials to keep the collection, marshaling activism online and in the Sioux Falls City Council. They are buoyed by experts who say the arsenic risk is overblown, the mounts nothing short of art. “They’re not stuffed animals. These were sculptures,” said John Janelli, a former president of the National Taxidermists Association, likening destroying them to scraping off the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The arsenic, he adds, is a heavy metal, not something that wafts through the air.“Just don’t lick the taxidermy,” says Fran Ritchie, the chair of the conservation committee of the...Court docs: Indiana man 'spread love' by waving at cars while fully nude

RadioheadThe Bends (Parlophone)Mannequin Online Has the Bends: Bridget Boltz of L.A. indie pop sleaze duo Mannequin Online told us about her love for a Radiohead classic.(Parlophone)Bridget Boltz: My favorite album of all time is The Bends by Radiohead. All of the tracks are cohesive without sounding the slightest bit repetitive; accompanied by some of the most honest and gut-wrenching lyrics Thom Yorke has ever graced us with. Each song is truly beautiful and worthwhile; dutifully earning their respective places on this album. That said, some standout tracks to me are Black Star and Fake Plastic Trees. The dynamics of these songs in particular bring forth both stunning swells and the gentlest, most evocative melodies.I’ve been very inspired by Thom Yorke and Radiohead my whole life, but The Bends really inspired me lyrically by blending brutal candor and ambiguity. I always go back to this album, be it for company on a long drive or when I’m seeking motivation.Mannequin Online Has ...Can Delta-8 Make You Faint? —Safety Info New Delta-8 Users Should Know

To Lawrence Lofts and his mates in London, their 49ers fandom is far less about the city of San Francisco, the franchise’s colors or its NFL history.Lofts started the “Jimmy G-Unit London Niner Chapter” in the UK for one reason: “The drink.”Lofts, a London native and the president of one of more than 100 local chapters stationed around the world as part of the Niner Empire fan club, had no intentions of becoming a 49ers supporter. In the 1980s and ‘90s, “the 49ers were winning everything,” he said, referring to the team’s five Super Bowl victories in 14 seasons from 1981-94. Lofts enjoyed cheering for an underdog, like his beloved Fulham Football Club, which was established in 1879 and is still seeking its first major championship. But when he paid a visit to the Bay Area in 2017 and noticed there was a Thursday night game between the then-struggling 49ers and Rams, Lofts was curious. In England, he said, tailgating isn’t a thing.
