Colin Allred launches Democratic challenge to Ted Cruz

(The Hill) – Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) launched a challenge to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R) reelection bid in 2024 on Wednesday, slamming Cruz as only caring about himself. Allred said in a video posted on his Twitter account that he was prepared to “take on anyone who came through” during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, while the video points to a comment that a rioter made saying he believed Cruz “would want us to do this.” The congressman notes then that Cruz hid in a supply closet during the attack. AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Health and Human Services Commission issued a reminder for Medicaid recipients who received renewal packets in April to return the information to the agency to avoid potential gaps in coverage.The deadline to renew the coverage has been extended to Monday, May 15. The previous deadline was May 8.“HHSC is staggering Medicaid redeterminations over multiple months, prioritizing redeterminations for those most likely to no longer qualify for Medicaid,” the commission said.HHSC said it was informing recipients by mail or electronically when it is their time to renew.“HHSC is mailing all Medicaid renewal notices in a yellow envelope that says ‘Action Required’ in red. LOUIS – The company behind Metro transit is going to beef up its security measures in the wake of last weekend's fatal shooting on a MetroLink train.Bi-State Development told FOX 2 Wednesday morning they’re buying two walkthrough metal detectors that will be staffed by police officers.The metal detectors will be moved around to different stations. ST. LOUIS - A judge denied a motion from St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner to dismiss the Missouri attorney general's case that attempts to remove her from office. According to Missouri court records, special Judge John Torbitzky dismissed the motion Tuesday. This allows a quo warranto lawsuit against Gardner to advance to trail. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey originally filed a writ of quo warranto against Gardner on Feb. 23, accusing her of neglecting her duties as circuit attorney. He amended his petition last month to include additional allegations of neglect.
