ST. LOUIS - There's nothing like Opening Day in St. Louis, and thousands are enjoying the full experience as the Cardinals open the 2023 season at Busch Stadium. Celebrations began early, some fans arriving to downtown St. Louis as early as sunrise. Crowds packed pep rallies at Ballpark Village and Kiener Plaza. Fans had the chance to enter Busch Stadium three hours ahead of game time, catching both the Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays in batting practice. The on-field Opening Day ceremonies will begin around 2:25 p.m. Fans can expect Clydesdales, players to be escorted in cars and a first pitch between former Cardinals stars Scott Rolen and Matt Holliday. LOUIS - As festivities commence in and around Busch Stadium for Cardinals Opening Day, animal activist organization PETA will fly a banner overhead protesting the treatment of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales.According to a PETA spokesperson, the banner is intended to shame Budweiser for "mutilating the horses' tailbones." Proceeds benefit Cardinals Care in its mission of helping kids in the St. Louis community.Cardinals Care silent auctions will be held every home series. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A St. Louis County jury returned a guilty verdict Wednesday against a man for the 2020 murder of his ex-girlfriend.Lawren Mitchell was shot to death on the morning of May 24, 2020, in the 5200 block of Lucas and Hunt Road.Prosecutors and police said Darius Ware shot Mitchell in the neck during an argument. Users responding to a survey by one of the world’s most visited snow sports information sites have selected Steamboat Ski Resort as North America’s best overall resort.OnTheSnow, which provides ski and snow reports for more than 2,000 resorts around the globe via its website and app, announced the award Thursday at the Mountain Travel Symposium in Banff, Alberta. Four other Colorado resorts claimed awards:Telluride was recognized as having the best all-mountain terrain for the second consecutive year.Keystone took honors for best terrain park, while sister resort Breckenridge was rated tops for après ski options.
