How to catch the Leonid meteor shower as it peaks Saturday morning

DENVER (KDVR) — While the Leonids are active from Nov. 3 through Dec. 2 this year, the best time to catch the meteor shower at its peak will be late Friday night into the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 18. Meteor showers typically get their name based on a star or constellation that is close to where the meteors appear in the sky. This is true for the Leonids, which appear to originate in the sky near the Leo constellation. While a meteor shower can be spotted by simply looking up, there are ways to improve your odds of catching the peak of 10-15 meteors per hour.Find an outdoor location with limited light pollution, lay on your back with your feet pointing to the southeast toward the constellation Leo and give your eyes about 30 minutes to adjust. Make sure that you bundle up if you will be heading out in the Denver area. Police in Revere shared a warning for community members Thursday after incidents of thieves stealing jewelry from often elderly victims. Revere police said the individuals usually work in teams traveling in a motor vehicle. They then approach victims on the street or in parking lots and initially attempt to get a victim to come over to the vehicle, according to police. Police said the individuals will then remove a victim’s jewelry and replace it with a counterfeit version.Revere police shared video of one such incident that they said happened last week at the Northgate Shopping Center.Their warning, in turn, followed other recent incidents of reported jewelry thefts in communities including Lowell and Tyngsboro. In Lowell, police said an elderly woman had her jewelry stolen while she was walking in town.In Tyngsboro, a 77-year-old woman had her jewelry taken when an SUV drove up alongside her and a passenger grabbed her. A coyote recently caught attention in Boston’s North End after being spotted roaming the neighborhood’s streets. Dog owners in the area spoke to 7NEWS said the animal has been the talk of the turf at their local dog park.“He was definitely a big coyote,” said concerned dog owner Michaela Burke. “I’ll definitely be a bit more cautious and cognisant of my surroundings now, knowing they could be lurking anywhere,” said dog owner Josh Svoboda. One video taken by a North End dog owner around 5:30 Tuesday morning documented the coyote moving through the area. The dog owner said she had just brought her dogs in from a walk and was heading off to work when she saw the large and seemingly healthy wild animal on the prowl near Snow Hill and Sheafe Street. According to the city of Boston’s animal control website, coyote sighting calls tend to go up as the weather gets colder. The same website says urban coyote sightings have been on the rise across Massachusetts....7 Investigates: Homeowners surprised with liens on homes after signing 40-year listing agreement

For years, music teacher Simon Watts called his Somerville condo home.He wasn’t looking to sell, but was intrigued when a real estate company, MV Realty, offered him upfront cash in return for the promise that they could sell him home when the time was right.“I was a bit skeptical,” he remembered. After talking to some people and researching the company, he decided to take them up on the offer of $2,120 in exchange for the exclusive rights to list his home in the future.“When I didn’t find anything, I thought why not?” he said.He said he thinks he used the money to buy flights for the family and then didn’t think much of it after that. What he didn’t know was that the company placed a lien on his property. Since Watts didn’t try to sell his home in the year since he signed with MV Realty, he said he was unaware his home had a lien on it until 7 Investigates reached out this fall.“I don’t think they should be able to. Barnstable falls to 9-2.The Warriors were utterly dominant from the jump, as they seemingly did everything right, from running the ball, to throwing it, to playing defense.“It’s great,” KP coach Brian Lee said. “I’m so happy to have these guys. I’m so proud of their effort. It’s not easy to win games. It’s not easy to go in and compete against these teams. It’s hard to get there. To put yourself in that position, it shows how hungry the boys are because there could be complacency. The potential of an impending trade has dominated this week for Zach LaVine. But before Wednesday’s 96-94 loss to the Orlando Magic, Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan wasn’t concerned about his star guard’s ability to balance his focus between the off-court drama and his on-court duties.“He’s always been coachable,” Donovan said. “He’s always been a guy that you can go to and talk to.”Another haphazard game from LaVine, however, offered more questions than answers about the two-time All-Star’s future with the Bulls. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Repairs to an elevated Los Angeles freeway closed because of an arson fire are moving faster than expected and lanes are scheduled to reopen by next Tuesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday. Earlier this week officials said it could take crews between three and five weeks to shore up the mile-long stretch of Interstate 10 near downtown after the blaze last Saturday burned about 100 support columns. “The bridge structure itself seems to be in better shape than we anticipated,” Newsom said during an evening news conference. “One thing we can guarantee you is we will be open, five lanes in both directions, at the latest Tuesday of next week.”More than 250 people were working around the clock to make the repairs, he said.“This is a good day in Los Angeles,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said. The fire that spread quickly over 8 acres (3 hectares) was fed by pallets, cars, construction materials, hand sanitizer and other items being stored under the free...Latest news
