It’s not easy navigating through a Houston Astros lineup that includes Jeremy Peña, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker, along with new addition José Abreu. The Chicago White Sox starters have been up to the task for the first three games of the season.Lucas Giolito allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in five innings in front of 37,519 on Saturday at Minute Maid Park. He didn’t factor in the decision in the 6-4 Sox loss.Tucker broke a 3-all tie with a two-out RBI single against reliever José Ruiz in the seventh as the Sox dropped their second straight.“Obviously the outcome is not what we want, but I like the way we played,” manager Pedro Grifol said. “If we play like that, we’re going to be all right.”It starts with the starters.Giolito followed Thursday’s Dylan Cease gem and Friday’s strong outing from Lance Lynn with a solid performance.“Dylan set the tone ...Red Sox notebook: All is forgotten with Adam Duvall’s big swing of the bat

When Adam Duvall stepped to the plate Thursday night with a chance to win the game with one swing of the bat, he struck out and the Red Sox rally fell short.Given a second chance on Saturday, Boston’s new centerfielder didn’t miss his shot. After Orioles left fielder Ryan McKenna dropped a routine fly ball that would have ended the game, Duvall crushed a two-run, walk-off home run into the Monster seats to finish off a wild 9-8 Red Sox win over the Orioles.“When it hit, I wasn’t sure if it was a homer or not,” he said of the ball, which landed right at the end of the top of the Monster.“And then, I saw them stop going for it, I saw the lights start to flicker. I mean, I was hoping that it was gonna stand as a homer, but I felt like I was still kind of running it out because I wasn’t sure.”Duvall finished 4-for-5 and fell a single short of the cycle. He tripled in his first at-bat and scored Boston’s first run of the game, crushed two ho...Chris Sale’s mixed bag debut couldn’t keep Red Sox down in epic comeback victory

April showers turned into a Sale storm on Saturday afternoon.Spoiler alert: not the good kind.Chris Sale’s first home game since the 2021 ALCS was a mixed bag from the start. He was a walking contradiction (sans any actual walks) in the first inning, striking out three batters interspersed with an early 3-0 lead for Baltimore Orioles on a single to Adley Rutschman and a pair of home runs. The velocity was there, but his command was all over the place.Zack Kelly was already warming in the bullpen during the third inning, but Sale managed to get out of the frame by striking out Ramon Urías for the third time.In three innings, he allowed seven earned runs on seven hits (three home runs), walked two, struck out six, and hit one batter. 74 of his 43 pitches were for strikes, and he got 13 swing and misses, but his command was erratic.Chris Sale's season debut, as told by Baseball Savant pic.twitter.com/fZJ9Z9ryr1— Gabrielle Starr (@gfstarr1) April 1, 2023Not an ideal debut...San Diego State going to NCAA Championship
